I started these illustrations after reading Johan Harstad's book, Max, Mischa, and the Tet Offensive. In it, he describes Fire Island, NY so well that for a moment I was transported right there to that island; in the heat of summer, eating ice cream with sand stuck all over my body after falling asleep on the beach and then getting drunk on beers in the evening. I miss traveling a lot. I feel very lucky for having been able to squeeze in 3/4 trips a year in the past, but that is no longer possible now, the world is closed covid19. So I guess I therapeutically started drawing places where I would want to travel. When I travel, I always bring my running shoes, which is a beautiful way of exploring new places. I’m not a great runner by any means, quite slow really. I'm more of a sightseer runner. I love using #Strava as it records the routes I create into hard orange lines through the maps. These act as evidence of my achievements. Now I use these lines, as what could have been. These maps were created by staring at Google maps.
